We held our last home meet of the season last week and while it was a very small and more lowkey meet than usual, at the same time it was a bit rejuvenating to be able to stay home and not be travelling all weekend after some recent longer trips we’ve taken to UW-Platteville, UW-Oshkosh, etc.
The highlight of the meet, I’d say, was the 800 meters where our main crop of middle distance runners all lined up together to duke it out in what was a quasi-tryout for our Drake Relays 4x800m team for this coming week.
Tommy Allen, Nick St. Peter and Owen Montreuil had all but locked up their spots on the relay with sophomores Cole Stencel, Max McCoy and Lars Molenkamp all also vying for positions. Cole ran 4:14 for 1600m on our DMR during the indoor season, so he was the likely favorite for that fourth spot heading into the meet last week. However, Max McCoy — who ran 1:55 as a freshman last year but was a little banged up indoors this year — had something to say about that. Max PR’d to run 1:54.96 and earn his spot on the team, while Cole ended up running a very respectable 1:55.1 and will now shift his focus to the 1500m as we approach the outdoor conference meet. SJU Easter Track Meet 800m Results
Our 4x800m at the Drake Relays will be this Thursday at 4:44pm, and our team of senior Tommy Allen, juniors Owen Montreuil and Nick St. Peter and sophomore Max McCoy are very excited to see what they can do. I believe you will be able to live stream the meet on RunnerSpace.com, although you may have to pay.
Our team will also have a 4x100m Relay, Kevin Arthur and Max Reis in the 100m, Jackson McDowell in the high jump and Mitch Degen in the javelin all competing at Drake as well on Friday and Saturday. It will be fun to have a bigger group at such a historic meet for the first time in many years! Here is the full schedule:
